Bellevue is a beautiful, lush area sandwiched between Lake Washington and Lake Sammamish. Bellevue was somewhat settled pre-20th century; people were drawn to its coasts and view of the Cascades. It’s been rapidly growing ever since, now including 126,626 people.
Bellevue boasts the 2nd largest city center in Washington state with 35,000 employees and 5,000 residents. Based on its per capita volume, Bellevue is the 6th wealthiest out of 522 communities in the United States. In 2008, it was #1 on CNNMoney’s Best Places to Live and Launch a Business and was recently ranked as the 4th best place to live in America. Bellevue’s name, in French, means “beautiful view.”
The city was founded in 1869 by an explorer named William Meydenbauer and stayed a little rural community until the opening of the Evergreen Point Floating Bridge.
